Biography

Tekla Zweir earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in sculpture in 1999 from Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts and a Master of Arts degree in Art Education in 2015 from Boston University. She was one of the founding resident artists at Hygienic Art from 2000- 2003 where she created and exhibited artwork along the theme of Origami. She is an artist and an educator who has taught studio art at The Williams School for twenty-three years and she currently serves as chair of the Arts Department. Tekla has been creating artwork for The Coral Reef Project for the past few years and curated the exhibition of her original artwork for The Lyman Allyn Museum in 2018. Tekla exhibited The Coral Reef Project, a solo show, at Mystic Museum of Art in 2019. More recently Tekla has shown work at Hygienic Art Galleries and The Local in New London, CT and at Old Black Point in East Lyme, CT. Currently, Tekla is creating watercolors inspired by her life on the New England coast. She resides in southeastern Connecticut with her musician husband, Ben Kane, and their two children, Cassius and Scarlet.
